#SustainabilitySunday Reducing paper wastage

In the UK we use over 12.5million tonnes of paper and cardboard every year, and when it takes ONE tree to make 230 average sized newspapers/magazines, that’s a lot of trees! Global estimates suggest 4 billion trees are chopped down every year for paper and card production. Thankfully in the UK the majority of timber is sourced through sustainable timber production: silviculture. However, this is not always the case elsewhere.

Paper and cardboard is one of the most recycled materials in the UK and we have a good infrastructure for doing so. 70% less energy is needed to recycle paper for the re-use when compared to creating paper and card from scratch using raw materials.

At Warner's we’re always looking into ways that we can reduce the amount of paper we waste, one way is to encourage tour guests not to print off their tickets, but to show them via a mobile device or quote their booking number instead. This will save 14,560 pieces of paper from being used on average! We also like to do our bit in the office and encourage employees to think before they print and promote recycling where possible.

Did you know…

  • Every tonne of recycled paper will save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic meters of landfill space, 4000KW of energy and 7,000 gallons of water?
  • If every person in the UK recycled just 10% more paper it would save approximately 5 million trees each year?

Join us to reduce, reuse and recycle, gin fans!
