Footprint Drinks Sustainability Award Winners 2020

Footprint Drinks Sustainability Award Winners 2020

We’re delighted to announce that we have won not one but TWO 2020 Footprint Drinks Sustainability Awards. As a business, we aim to demonstrate how business and conservation can – and should – work together, reducing our environmental impact is at the heart of what we do and that’s why winning these awards truly mean so much.

Now, as the proud holders of the Waste Prevention & Management Award & the Stakeholder Engagement Award (for the second year in a row), we want to give a huge shout out to our epic team for everything they do to help us towards our sustainability goals. You’re all an absolute bunch of legends!

 2020 Stakeholder Engagement Award

Biodiversity plays a huge role in the production of our gins and 0% Botanic Garden Spirits; our hedgerows & acres of rolling fields provide the inspiration and flavour for our spirits which are all truly crafted with nature. We wouldn’t be able to make a single bottle of our award-winning range without the generosity of Mother Nature and that’s why we’ve been working to raise awareness on the importance of hedgerow habitat.

Our partnership with the People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) has meant we’ve been able to help fund their National Dormouse monitoring program and the development of hedgerow survey tools for the public to use (https://hedgerowsurvey.ptes.org/).. Poor management of hedgerows results in fragmentation or the complete loss of habitat, impacting massively on wildlife that call them home.

2020 Waste Prevention & Management Award

We’ve been working incredibly hard as a business to reduce and remove single-use components in our packaging, as well as giving opportunities for re-use and upcycling.

Our big target for 2020 was to remove the use of the plastic air sacs from our ecommerce deliveries. Numerous cutting-edge packaging innovations were trialled, new technologies were tested but, in the end,, we settled on the simplest and most sustainable ideas; we now re-use our own cardboard waste to protect our products. Using our waste cardboard means our production of waste is lessened and it has eliminated well over 20,000 single-use air sacs from our ecommerce deliveries.

We’ve also been working hard to encourage and inspire everyone to re-use, recycle & upcycle our gift packaging, designed specifically with local wildlife in mind and love seeing the brilliant, inspiring pictures, videos and stories from our consumers when bees and birds move into their new homes. It goes to show how packaging, often seen as a villain for wildlife, can provide innovative breeding places to help support biodiversity.
